Kent Council Leaders respond to Government plans to move more decisions locally

On 12 February 2026, the government wrote to council leaders in areas that do not yet have a devolution deal, including Kent and Medway. Devolution means some decisions and funding could be passed from national Government to the local area.

The letter asked leaders in Kent and Medway to consider sending an expression of interest, for the creation of Foundation Strategic Authority (FSA).

The government says an FSA could give the area more control over some services that affect day-to-day life. This may include things like local transport, and skills and training to help people into work.
